So I’ve been traveling a little bit for work since I got here and last week I managed to take a few photos when I was in Brisbane. Normally I don’t have enough time to get out and see much but on this trip I was able to get out one evening and see a bit more of the area I was staying in (Toowong). All of the pictures were taken with my camera phone so give me a break, okay?

Queensland is famous for "Big" things so I thought I'd start a photo collection. I guess this is the "Big Orange" in the countryside west of Brisbane.

Classic homes in Queensland are called “Queenslanders” (clever, eh?). They don’t build them like this any more, but I think the ones that are well maintained are awesome. Generally they are built of timber, up off the ground, and have big verandahs. These ones are right in the city.

I thought this one was absolutely gorgeous.

The Brisbane Botanical Gardens were only a mile or two away from where I was staying so I walked over there and had a look around. It was so huge that I only saw a section but it was beautiful and nice to get away from the city traffic.

The Brisbane Cemetery was right next to the Botanical Gardens so I walked through it afterwards. It was also enormous and extremely interesting–if your into that kind of thing. I think it’s interesting to think about the people who have passed through a place and what their lives might have been like. Most of the graves in the section I walked through were from the first half of the 20th century and all of the ones I could read (and I’m assuming the ones I couldn’t read) were immigrants.

Lots of the headstones at the Brisbane Cemetery were written in different languages. Many were in Greek but some of them (like this one) I wasn't even sure what the language was.

The cemetery was HUGE. You can't see very well, but the hill in the background is part of it. And this was just one section!

The view across the Brisbane River to the CBD. It was cloudy and a little rainy but still really warm.

So that’s a little bit of Brizzy for ya!
